Brain Training/Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Adults Only Therapy
Lunch and Learn for Businesses (Topics: Mindfulness and Self-Compassion)
I am a member of the APA (American Psychological Association) and the EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) International Association. I focus on issues relevant to most women and men in my practice (anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship challenges-at home and work). I only work with individuals who are 20 years and older. I also work with individuals in recovery from an addiction and their families. I frequently treat clients challenged by PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), and have special training in EMDR (Part I & Part II) for trauma resolution .
I use Cognitive Behavioral techniques to aid clients in returning quickly to a healthy level of functioning. While some problems may require a lengthy treatment, I believe that many issues people seek therapy for require relatively brief interventions, allowing individuals to progress on their own with infrequent "check ups" or "booster sessions".
I am a mindful meditation practitioner and find that daily meditation decreases my stress levels and symptoms of anxiety. I have added Brain Training, a.k.a. Mindfulness, to my practice in the past few years to aid my clients in their reduction of stress, pain, and life dissatisfaction. I help people live in the present rather than in the past (which causes depression) or in the future (which causes anxiety). I am currently teaching a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Class in the Spring and Fall. Please click on the Mindfulness page and the 8-Week MBSR Class page of this website for more information.
We will work together as a team to determine the type of treatment that is needed for you. I appreciate my client's insight and want to hear about any past experience with counseling or other tools used to treat your current challenges.
I earned a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of North Texas.
I look forward to working as a partner with you on the issues that you most want help with.
